First off, I've been eating at Lac Viet easily 15+ times since its inception. In the beginning, they had consistency issue, but the food was generally great especially at the $11.99 price point. I went there at least 3 times every week with friends & family. We all loved it. Then they hit a rough patch where the food sucked bad. The last straw was the inedible pork ribs that's probably been marinated in sadness, and the smelly fried shrimp cake. That was my cue to stay away. But let's be real, 11.99 for cơm tấm? You just can't resist that kind of deal, especially with how expensive food is around Bolsa. So, I ventured back 3 weeks ago and ate there 6 times since then. I'm happy to report back that they have fixed the consistency issue. The quality is top-notch once again. What I love the most about Lac Viet is how well-priced and simple the menu is. Some people might not like the limited options, but hey, I don't need to read a book before ordering. Furthermore, specialty Vietnamese coffee for $3.45? That's basically a crime not to order. You'll be hard pressed to find that anywhere else in Bolsa. The service here is pretty typical of Vietnamese spots. They bring you food and leave you alone. Though, the other day I was hit with a "Chúc anh ngon miệng". I was like wtf? Did I just get a blessing? I've never felt so honored to eat cơm tấm in my life. Appreciated that though. Bottom line: if you're craving quality cơm tấm without bankrupting yourself, Lac Viet's got your back. Thanks for coming to my TED talk!

Lac Viet Concepts. Smart Business Concepts. Good foods. Reasonable prices. Who wouldn't like that? Love to swing by here to pickup some to go orders. Their grilled/bbq pork is always delicious. Service also good here. Note: this location does not have all the snacks, spring rolls, sticky rice, curry chicken, etc. like their other location. Basic broken rice and grilled meats and tea are their staple. Banh mi is $5/each.

Checked out Lac Viet Concept after spotting it on the way to lunch. We were early, so we decided to stop by and see what they had. It seems like they're in a soft opening phase (or at least I hope so) because things felt a bit disorganized--there wasn't even a menu to look at. We ended up just grabbing what we saw in front: sweet sticky rice and spring rolls. The sticky rice was solid--coconut shreds, mung bean, sesame seeds, and a creamy coconut sauce all came together nicely. For the spring rolls, we got one of each type, and the bi (pork skin) spring roll was definitely my favorite. The others were decent, and I liked the peanut dipping sauce. Overall, the food was tasty for what it was, but they definitely need to get things more organized. Hopefully, they'll smooth things out soon!

We arrived a little before noon on a Monday. We got lucky and found a parking spot, the lot is very small. We walked in and were seated immediately. We aren't very well versed with Vietnamese food and came here upon recommendation from the hair salon across the street. We didn't know what to order so we asked the server and he wasn't very helpful. He said to get one from the top of the menu and one from the bottom. So we did! We didn't know what we were ordering but it was delicious. Now, hours late , I realize I should've ordered a banh mi, at the time I thought the price was a typo, (4.95!) or I didn't understand the menu because it's mostly in Vietnamese and not much in the way of descriptions. We had a grilled pork chop with broken rice, 2 eggs, vermicelli noodles and a shrimp/pork thing wrapped in tofu. Very substantial and filling for 11.95! I ordered the Bo Ne for 12.95 and it was a delicious steak and eggs with the most tender cuts of beef ever! The sauce was slightly sweet and the eggs cooked to perfection as the residual heat from the pan cooked them. I try not to eat bread but I ended up having to eat half of the baguette they brought with the meal. It has to be done to soak up the sauce and eggs. One of our meals came with a clear brith soup with lotus root. We don't know whose it was. It was tasty but slightly bitter. The meals also come with complimentary iced tea and food came out quickly. We both enjoyed our meals immensely and loved the surprise factor of not knowing what we were going to get. The food was great and the prices are unbelievable. I would definitely come back and try the $5 banh mi! They have a bumping takeout crowd. So many people were taking food to go. The only downside is that it isn't as cleanly as it could be. But just avert your eyes.

1. The packaging for the com tam to go was fancy! The coffee also hit the spot! 2. The spot has fun casual vibes! 3. There were a lot of indoor seatings! 4. The staff were friendly and quick with my carryout order! It took less than 10 mins! 5. Parking lot is small, but street parking is available! Note: Cards are accepted! Photo: Com Tam and Ube Coffee

This place only serves 3 things: banh mi, bo ne, and com tam. I've tried all 3 and everything is decent and you cannot beat the price, it's cheap! I haven't tried their coffees yet, but my parents liked it. This location is really small with minimal parking, mostly for takeout orders. But they are opening a bigger location on Brookhurst and Westminster, so check that place out if you'd like to dine in.

Simple place for a quick lunch. Loved the Bo Ne (Sizzling Steak & Eggs on Cast Iron) Accompanied by tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, & meatballs accompanied by two Banh mi halves. Steak was nicely cooked with a good sear & the taste was good! My favorite was actually the panini style Banh mi for $5 that I got to go! Decent place overall, nothing too special, but great for a to go order or quick stop.

People been raving about their Banh Mi, so I decided to try it for myself. I called in to order Togo and the employee spoke English to me, but understood Vietnamese. I ordered Banh Mi Thit Nuong Sa. I like how the Banh Mi is flat like a panini. It's easier to eat for people who can't bite down too much. I thought it was good, but I expected it to be mind blowing the way people had described it to me. I do think it's cheaper than a lot of Banh mi prices, but they skimp out on meat!
